The Philosopher and the Beautiful Peacock


Rumi, the famous Persian poet and philosopher, is known for his inspiring stories and poems. One of his famous stories is about a philosopher who saw a beautiful peacock and advised it not to pull its feathers.

The story goes like this:

Once, a philosopher was walking in a garden and came across a beautiful peacock. The peacock had magnificent feathers that shone in the sunlight, and the philosopher was mesmerized by its beauty. However, he noticed that the peacock was plucking out its feathers one by one. The philosopher was puzzled and asked the peacock why it was doing so.

The peacock replied, "I am pulling out my feathers because I want to be even more beautiful. I want to be the most beautiful bird in the garden."

The philosopher shook his head and said, "No, my dear peacock, you are already beautiful. You do not need to pull out your feathers to be even more beautiful. In fact, by pulling out your feathers, you are only making yourself look weak and vulnerable."

The peacock was taken aback by the philosopher's words. It had never thought about it that way before. It realized that the philosopher was right and decided to stop pulling out its feathers.

The moral of the story is that we should not try to change ourselves to fit someone else's idea of beauty or perfection. We are already beautiful just the way we are, and we should embrace and celebrate our uniqueness. Trying to change ourselves to fit someone else's standards can only make us weaker and less confident.

In today's society, we are bombarded with messages about how we should look, what we should wear, and how we should act. These messages can be overwhelming and can make us feel like we are not good enough. But it is important to remember that we are all unique individuals, and we should celebrate our differences instead of trying to change ourselves to fit in.

Like the peacock in the story, we should embrace our beauty and not try to change ourselves to fit someone else's idea of perfection. We should be proud of who we are and not let anyone else dictate our worth.
